Gambless launches its mobile app and announces partnership with Lottoland

  • di

It’s official! Gambless has just launched a new mobile app for the prevention and treatment of pathological gambling.

The application, which is accessible from both iOS and Android devices, offers resources to problem gamblers, including informative articles, a self-care diary, coping-skills exercises, diagnostic tests, an emergency chatbot, and several psychoeducational courses – its core feature.

Gambless introduces a new approach on Responsible Gambling, placing gambling addiction in the right context – which is a person’s whole mental health.

The app comes after more than 1 year of research into mental health support delivered via portable devices, which resulted in the development of Mindspa, a mobile app launched by the same team in February 2020, now counting over 90,000 registered users.

Gambless aims to educate users on the risks surrounding gambling, as well as providing educational materials on wider mental health and wellbeing topics. Currently the following psycho-educational courses are available on the app: Problem Gambling, Emotional intelligence, Anti Stress, Anti Loneliness, with more programs to come.

The Problem Gambling program has been written by a team of psychologists specialized in gambling addiction and other compulsive behaviors. It combines different treatment techniques, including CBT and Gestalt therapy, and is structured into multiple sections, educating users on the topic, giving actionable tips on how to consciously understand needs and emotions, and how to actively take control of their gambling behavior.

In the UK alone, nearly 500,000 people are estimated to suffer from pathological gambling, with 2 million more at mid-to-high risk of developing a gambling problem. Unfortunately, just 2% of those affected get professional help.

Maurizio Savino, CEO at Gambless commented:

There are three main reasons why problem gamblers fail to get treatment: the low awareness on the topic, the stigma still associated to mental illness, and the price/accessibility of therapy. With Gambless we tackle all three, spreading education, ensuring full privacy and offering affordable support programs.

The multilanguage app is initially targeted towards UK, Italian and Russian markets, with plans to expand to more languages in order to reach also LATAM, Scandinavian and other European countries.

The release of Gambless comes also with an important partnership with leading UK lotto operator Lottoland.

Commenting on the partnership, Maurizio Savino said:

The cooperation with a primary operator that shares our vision and is willing to experiment new solutions, is key to our mission to reduce gambling harm.

A good relationship with operators is paramount to achieve long term sustainability. In any given year, 1 in 4 people is affected by a mental disorder or substance abuse. However, among problem gamblers, comorbidity with other mental issues is as high as 70%. This puts operators in a unique position to positively impact the wellbeing of vulnerable individuals. Increasing customer protection can bring also positive externalities within the industry, such as improving reputation against the increasing public scrutiny faced in the past few years.

Nigel Birrell, CEO at Lottoland added:

“We absolutely need to be doing more to improve responsible gaming and we recognise that combating the problem can start right here at Lottoland. From their very first visit, our customers will now have access to resources, advice and exercises so that they can make educated choices with their bets and enjoy things like lotto in a safe, responsible way.”

The application can be downloaded from both Google Play and App Store.
